Two men who were rescued after falling into a diesel reservoir during an industrial accident in the Ikosi Oregun area of Lagos State were confirmed dead Saturday evening.

Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, confirmed the deaths in a statement, noting that despite initial efforts to save them, both victims succumbed to their injuries.

“The two male adults, rescued earlier this morning by the LASEMA Response Team, were resuscitated and transported to the hospital. Unfortunately, despite all sustained medical efforts, they later died.

No further updates are available. Operation concluded,” Oke-Osanyintolu said.

The agency had responded promptly to a distress call at 10:37 AM, made through the state’s 767/112 Emergency Toll-Free Lines.

In a  statement, preliminary investigations revealed that one of the victims fell into the diesel reservoir while working.

The second man attempted to rescue the first and also fell into the tank.

Both men sustained severe injuries, and emergency responders from LASEMA and the Lagos State Ambulance Service, LASAMBUS, provided first aid, including CPR, at the scene before rushing them to the hospital.

Emergency personnel from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and LASAMBUS secured the area and conducted a thorough assessment to prevent future accidents.
