Belgium’s head coach, Domenico Tedesco has been dismissed from his role after just under two years in charge.
The Italian-German manager faced increasing pressure following a series of lackluster results, with his team winning only two of their last 10 matches.
Tedesco’s final game as coach saw Belgium suffer a 1-0 defeat to Israel in the Nations League in November, resulting in the Red Devils finishing third in their group.
In a statement, the Belgian Football Association ,KBVB, acknowledged that the team “did not perform as we hoped” in both the Nations League and Euro 2024, where Belgium was eliminated by France in the last 16.
Appointed in February 2023, Tedesco succeeded Roberto Martinez after the 2022 World Cup.

His tenure began with a 13-match unbeaten streak, but the disappointing performance at Euro 2024 marked a significant setback.
Tedesco’s time in charge was also marred by a public fallout with goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who subsequently announced he would no longer play for Belgium as long as Tedesco remained in charge.
In December, Tedesco’s absence from the 2026 World Cup qualifying draw fueled speculation about his future, which was ultimately confirmed on Friday.
Reflecting on his departure, Tedesco described his time as “a beautiful journey,” though one “unfortunately coming to an end.” He expressed confidence in the team’s future, stating, “This team is still at the beginning of its development and will cause a sensation in the coming years.”
Belgian media have already begun speculating about potential replacements, with some suggesting a return for Thierry Henry, who previously served as Martinez’s assistant.
