A bomb explosion rocked Kawuri, a town in the Konduga Local Government Area, Borno State, on Tuesday evening.
The blast killed Abba Godori, the vice chairman of the Kawuri unit of the Civilian Joint Taskforce.
An eyewitness, who wished to remain anonymous, said Godori stepped on a bomb, believed to have been planted by terrorists a day earlier. “He was on patrol and followed the terrorists’ footsteps before stepping on the device,” the source explained.

When contacted, ASP Nahum Daso, spokesperson for the Borno State Police Command, confirmed he had not yet received information on the incident. “I haven’t gotten any details; I will verify before night,” he stated.
The use of explosives by terrorists remains a significant challenge in the ongoing counter-insurgency efforts.
Recently, Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, acknowledged that improvised explosive devices , IEDs, have been a persistent issue. “IEDs have been the major challenge since the insurgency began. We’re exploring solutions to address this,” he said.
