The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has disclosed the Federal Government’s plan to establish an aircraft manufacturing company in Nigeria
He explained that this initiative aligns with the government’s vision to support local players and enhance the country’s aviation sector.
Keyamo shared this information during the unveiling of XeJet’s Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul, MRO, facility and flight support center in Abuja.

The facility represents a partnership between XeJet and local banks, aimed at positioning Nigeria as a regional aviation service hub.
Keyamo stated: “Since we assumed office, our focus has been on attracting MRO facilities into our aviation ecosystem, similar to what exists in other parts of the world.
“We have searched extensively for investors, but now we realize that the solution we sought abroad is right here at home. This collaboration between a local operator and Nigerian banks is truly a dream realized.”
Highlighting the project’s importance, the minister pointed to the addition of various facilities, including a training center, calling it “a significant achievement.”
Keyamo added: “This project will not only benefit Nigeria but will also attract customers from the entire West African region. The goal is to turn this facility into a regional center of excellence.”
Discussing the broader vision, XEJet’s CEO, Emmanuel Iza, emphasized plans to place Nigeria on the global map for aircraft manufacturing, repairs, and operations.
“The vision is ambitious. Our goal is to contribute to aircraft manufacturing, even if it involves just components like wings, landing gears, or tires.
“Nigeria has the talent and capability; we only need the right environment and facilities to make it a reality,” he explained.
Iza also discussed the significant employment opportunities the multi-million-dollar project is expected to create, saying: “Currently, XeJet employs about 300 people. With this new facility, we plan to increase that number fourfold.
“The first phase will involve site preparation, including leveling the ground and building a taxiway to connect the runway to the facility, which is estimated to cost $5 million. The construction of the facility itself will require an equal investment.”
