The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company ,AEDC, has announced that electricity consumers in the Federal Capital Territory and surrounding franchise areas will experience full power restoration within the next 11 days.
This follows the ongoing restoration work by the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, on the underground transmission line that was vandalized near Millennium Park in Abuja.
AEDC stated that the repair works are expected to be completed by February 23, 2025.
In a power supply update shared on its official X handle , the company highlighted the disruption affecting various areas including Wuye, Utako, Jabi, Mabushi, Katampe Districts, Life Camp, Wuse Zones 1-7, Wuse 2, Maitama, parts of the Central Business District, and nearby areas.
The disruption, caused by the vandalization of the 132kV Katampe – Central Area underground transmission cable, has resulted in power outages across the affected regions.
AEDC emphasized that TCN is working around the clock to replace and reconnect the damaged cable and that normal power supply to the Central Area Transmission Substation (AT5) is expected to be restored by February 23.
The company thanked customers for their patience and understanding during the restoration process.
While repair work continues, AEDC has implemented load management to optimize the limited power supply available and will maintain close collaboration with TCN to ensure swift resolution.

These outages significantly impacted power supply to numerous areas, including several business districts, leading to blackouts and disruptions across the FCT.
The company disclosed this in 26 public notices posted on its official X handle.
Despite collecting N229.39 billion in revenue for electricity usage in the first 11 months of 2024, AEDC attributed the disruptions to technical faults on its feeders.
These outages were separate from disruptions caused by maintenance work carried out by TCN, including the relocation of the 33KV DC Airport Feeder and the 132KV Kukwaba-Apo Transmission Line Towers.
A detailed breakdown showed that on January 4, 2025, the first power outage of the year occurred, affecting customers at the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and nearby areas.
The following day, January 5, a technical fault on the feeder disrupted power to areas such as Agwan Koro, Madalla, Police Estate, and several others. On January 6, outages affected customers in Garki Areas 1, 2, 3, 7, and 8, along with the surrounding areas, including the UN building, the Russian Embassy, and the World Trade Center.
Power was also disrupted in Kubwa and several nearby locations on January 18, 2025, and in Banex Plaza and surrounding areas on January 30, 2025.
The most recent outage occurred on February 11, 2025, impacting customers in Army Barracks, Water Works, Masuga Kontagora, and nearby areas.
AEDC assured customers that its technical team is working tirelessly to restore power as quickly as possible and expressed regret for the inconvenience caused.
The company also appealed for continued patience during this challenging period.
