President Bola Tinubu has appointed six Chief Medical Directors to oversee federal government-owned hospitals in Akure, Gombe, Azare, Lafia, Maiduguri, and Kafanchan.

Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga announced the appointments on Friday, listing experienced professionals chosen to lead the institutions.

Prof. Olusegun Ojo, who previously served as the pioneer CMD of Ondo State Specialist Hospital, will now head the Federal Teaching Hospital in Akure, Ondo State.

Prof. Yusuf Abdullahi secured a second term as CMD of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, in recognition of his outstanding performance during his first tenure. His new term began on September 5, 2024.

Dr. Dauda Katagum, previously the Acting CMD of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Azare, Bauchi State, has been confirmed as the substantive CMD. His tenure at the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital, Azare, commenced on December 6, 2024.

In Lafia, Dr. Ikrama Hassan will lead the newly upgraded Federal Teaching Hospital. A consultant physician, he previously headed the Dalhatu Ibrahim Arab Specialist Hospital before its transition into a teaching hospital.

Dr. Ali Ramat, a Consultant Orthopaedic and Spine Surgeon, takes charge as CMD of the newly established National Orthopaedic Hospital in Maiduguri, Borno State.

The President also approved the appointment of Dr. Haruna Shehu, a Consultant Family Physician, as CMD of the new Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan, Kaduna State.

Each appointment is for a four-year term, effective from the respective dates of assumption of office.

Tinubu congratulated the new and returning directors, urging them to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, accountability, and service delivery.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure and ensuring quality medical services for all Nigerians.
