Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has issued a strong warning to roadside preachers using loudspeakers in public spaces, especially markets, accusing them of contributing to noise pollution and disturbing the peace of residents.
The governor emphasized that anyone caught violating the noise control regulations would be penalized with a fine of ₦500,000.
A viral video circulating on social media on Saturday shows Soludo confronting an unidentified preacher at a market, urging him to stop disrupting the activities of traders with loud preaching.
Speaking to traders at what is believed to be Ochanja Market in Onitsha, the governor remarked, “If you want to preach the word of God, go to your church. This is a marketplace, not a church. You cannot disturb people here.”

He advised the preacher to either hold services in a church or rent an open field, suggesting that those interested in listening would be able to find him there.
“We have banned loudspeakers in markets due to noise pollution, which impacts people’s hearing,” Soludo said. “This is not acceptable. You cannot take over public spaces and turn them into places of worship. Anyone violating this law will face a ₦500,000 fine.”
The governor further stated that his administration is committed to cracking down on fake pastors and prophets in the state.
