The Aliko Dangote Foundation, ADF, launched its 2025 Annual National Food Intervention Project on Thursday, aiming to distribute 10kg bags of rice to over one million Nigerians.

Valued at N16 billion, the initiative is set to provide aid to the nation’s most vulnerable populations, across all 774 local government areas in Nigeria.

At the flag off in Kano, Aliko Dangote, the chairman of the foundation, was represented by his daughter, Marya Aliko Dangote, who emphasized that this annual food distribution initiative is rooted in the core values of compassion, solidarity, and shared responsibility.

Dangote stressed that the foundation’s efforts are a response to the country’s ongoing economic challenges and demonstrate its commitment to supporting vulnerable communities.

“We are launching the distribution in Kano State and will continue nationwide, ensuring that aid reaches those who need it most,” said Dangote. “Food is a fundamental human need, and we are working closely with state governments to ensure the most vulnerable people in each area receive help.”

The project is part of ADF’s broader mission to improve the quality of life for Nigerians by addressing issues such as hunger, water access, healthcare, education, and economic empowerment.

Dangote also urged other industrialists and businesses to join the fight against hunger through similar initiatives, calling for a public-private partnership to address the food crisis.

Governor Abba K. Yusuf of Kano, represented by Deputy Governor Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gworzo, praised the foundation’s work, calling Dangote a “humane” figure committed to combating poverty.

The Kano state government will distribute 120,000 bags of rice across its 44 local government areas, with a transparent process overseen by a dedicated committee.

Zouera Youssoufou, the Managing Director of the Aliko Dangote Foundation, highlighted the project as part of the foundation’s ongoing support to the Nigerian government in its fight against poverty and hunger.

She reaffirmed Dangote’s dedication to philanthropy and improving conditions for the nation’s poor.

The Deputy Commander-General of the Hisbah Board in Kano, Dr. Mujahid Aminudeen, also expressed his gratitude for the initiative, encouraging others to follow Dangote’s example in supporting humanitarian causes.

Representatives of the vulnerable communities, such as Ibrahim Ahmed, offered their thanks and prayers for Dangote’s continued success in business and philanthropy.

The Aliko Dangote Foundation has a long history of addressing both natural disasters and health challenges.

Past efforts include donating N153 million to Nigeria’s fight against Ebola in 2014, contributing $3 million to the African Union’s Ebola response, and supporting COVID-19 relief with a N2 billion donation to the CACOVID Fund.

The foundation has also invested in education, including a N1.2 billion business school at Bayero University and a N300 million building for the University of Ibadan.

Additionally, ADF has provided international aid, including a $1 million donation for earthquake relief in Nepal.
