Russia has dismissed the idea of deploying NATO peacekeepers in Ukraine, insisting that the alliance is not suited for peacekeeping efforts.
Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko stated that discussions on peacekeeping remain premature and should only take place after a formal agreement is reached.
He argued that the organisation’s history is filled with military operations and unprovoked aggression, making its involvement in peacekeeping contradictory.

Grushko warned that the deployment of NATO forces, whether under the EU, NATO, or individual countries, would place them in the conflict zone.
As an alternative, he proposed an unarmed observer mission or a civilian monitoring group to oversee aspects of a peace deal.
“Such a mission could ensure compliance with specific provisions and serve as part of a broader guarantee mechanism,” he added.
