A devastating fire tore through a recycling hub and market in the Dakata metropolitan area of Kano State early Wednesday morning, destroying properties worth billions of naira.
The blaze, which started at around 4 a.m., began at a facility where plastics and scraps are recycled before spreading to the nearby groundnut mill market, which sells food and provisions.
Adamu Umar, a security guard at the recycling hub, disclosed that the fire was sparked by electrical sparks at nearby power poles, quickly spreading to the market area.
Kano State’s newly appointed Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Bakori, visited the scene on his first day in office and described the incident as unfortunate.
