Margaret Ekpeyong Okon, the Assistant State Woman Leader for the South in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has officially resigned from the party.

Her resignation comes just two days after Emana Amawhe, the deputy governorship candidate for the 2024 elections, also stepped down from the PDP.

In a resignation letter addressed to the Ward Chairman of Edem Odo Ward, Akpabuyo Local Government Area, Cross River State, Okon expressed her gratitude for the opportunities and experiences she gained throughout her tenure.

Reflecting on her political journey, which included roles as a ward executive member, councillor, and member of the state executive council, she acknowledged the trust and support she received from the party.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to have served the party in various capacities, from being a Ward Exco member to serving as a Councillor, and most recently, as a member of the State Executive Council/Assistant State Woman Leader, South,” she said. “These experiences have been invaluable, and I deeply appreciate the trust and support I received throughout my journey.”

Okon emphasized that the insights and lessons learned during her time with the PDP will influence her future endeavors.

She also reaffirmed her continued commitment to serving her community and working toward progress for the people.

Her resignation further contributes to the political shifts occurring in Cross River State following Amawhe’s departure, marking a significant moment in the region’s political landscape.
