Izuafa Abdulraufu, 18-year-old student of Software Engineering at Veritas University, Abuja, has been recognized as a Microsoft Most Valuable Player, MVP, and invited to a three-day summit in the United States.
Abdulrafiu’s recognition underscores the talent and potential within Nigeria’s tech ecosystem. The summit, he added, was a career-defining moment for the young scholar, setting the stage for even greater contributions to the industry.
Abdulrafiu’s journey to this recognition began with an impressive record in tech-related competitions. In his second year at Veritas University, he emerged as the first-place winner of the Africa First AI-Powered Inter-University Quizathon, a highly competitive event that tested participants on various courses within Nigeria’s National Universities Commission curriculum.
He outperformed over 7,000 competitors from more than 150 universities nationwide, securing a cash prize of N350,000.
The AI-powered quizathon required participants to answer the maximum number of questions correctly within 25 minutes. The event, which lasted five hours, saw Abdulrafiu’s intelligence, consistency, and tenacity push him to the top of the leaderboard.
