The Kwara State Teaching Service Commission,TESCOM has shortlisted 1,800 applicants for teaching appointments across the state.
This was disclosed in a statement by the Commission’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Sam Onile, made available to newsmen in Ilorin.
Onile stated that the shortlisted applicants emerged from a rigorous screening exercise, which included a computer-based test and interviews conducted over a period of more than three months.
“The shortlist includes 790 candidates (44%) for STEM subjects, 581 for core subjects, 370 for specialised subjects, and 59 for technical subjects,” he said.
He added that the successful candidates would be deployed to senior secondary schools across the 16 local government areas of the state, based on the Commission’s needs assessment.
Onile advised applicants who participated in the interviews to check their status on the TESCOM portal. He further noted that all shortlisted candidates are required to undergo a mandatory drug test to assess their suitability to teach schoolchildren.
The drug test will be carried out by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency and coordinated by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Drug Abuse, Prevention, and Control, Hon. Mukail Aileru.
The test is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, and conclude on Saturday, April 12, 2025. Candidates from Baruten, Edu, Kaiama, and Patigi are scheduled for testing on Wednesday.
Those from Ekiti, Ifelodun, Irepodun, and Isin will be tested on Thursday, April 10. Applicants from Offa, Oke Ero, Oyun, and Moro are slated for Friday, April 11, while those from Asa, Ilorin East, Ilorin South, and Ilorin West will undergo the test on Saturday, April 12.

Onile emphasized that the drug test results will be sent directly to the Commission by the NDLEA to prevent tampering, as candidates will not be allowed access to their results.
He also stated that successful candidates will be required to sign a bond not to seek a transfer for six years. This policy aims to address the shortage of teachers in rural communities.
“Shortlisted applicants must also present medical certificates from any state government hospital, along with the original copies of their academic and professional credentials for documentation. They are to submit photocopies of these documents for record purposes,” Onile said.
He added that the applicants are required to submit handwritten letters of acceptance of the job offer, while other conditions of service will be explained during the documentation process.
