The Kebbi State Government has recruited 2,000 teachers as part of efforts to improve the delivery of quality education across the state.
The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Halima Muhammad-Bande, stated this during the presentation of appointment letters to the first batch of newly recruited teachers on Friday in Birnin Kebbi.
Muhammad-Bande, who also chairs the recruitment committee, said 391 teachers—holders of Degrees, Higher National Diplomas, HND, and Postgraduate qualifications—had been shortlisted in the first phase and would be deployed to post-basic schools.
She explained that an additional list would soon be released, focusing on candidates with National Certificates in Education, NCE, . Out of 18,000 applications received, 4,000 candidates were screened.
The commissioner urged the new teachers to be committed to their duties, emphasizing the administration’s dedication to strengthening the education sector.
“A teacher in Kebbi is a king because the governor is a teacher who understands the value of education,” she said, assuring that more recruitment exercises would follow.
Chairman of the Kebbi House Committee on Education, Muhammad Garba-Bena, commended Governor Nasir Idris for his support in ensuring a smooth recruitment process. He assured that the exercise would continue until the state had enough teachers.
Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Abubakar Magaji-Nayilwa, encouraged the teachers to give their best for the advancement of education in the state and beyond.
