The Federal Government, on Monday, inaugurated Sections 3A and 3B of the 750km Lagos-Calabar coastal road in Akamkpa, Cross River State.
Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi and the Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu witnessed the event.
The 65km stretch is a three-lane dual carriageway and will be built using continuous reinforced concrete pavement like other sections of the mega project.
Umahi described the coastal highway as a transformative infrastructure initiative and praised President Tinubu’s dedication to national development.
“Only somebody like Asiwaju can come to a deep forest like this and turn it into another city,” he said, calling the president a “national hero” for initiating such a bold and far-reaching project.
He highlighted the current administration’s efforts to revive the nation’s economy, stating that Nigeria is now on the path of prosperity.
“We inherited an economy that was in oxygen. But the oxygen has been removed. The worst is over,” he said. “This project is a testament to our economic revival.”

Tinubu also emphasized the importance of economic self-sufficiency, stating that true independence must include food security and internal resilience.
“The structure we are putting in place today will leave a massive legacy, improving the life of every Nigerian,” he said.
