A tragic accident on the Oyo-Ogbomoso highway claimed the lives of candidates travelling for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME,.
The crash, which occurred over the weekend, was reportedly caused by a suspected brake failure, leading to heavy casualties.
Although the exact number of victims and their identities have not been officially released, it was confirmed that they were en route to their various centres for the UTME examination.
News of the incident quickly spread across social media, drawing a wave of reactions from users who expressed deep sorrow and anger over the tragedy.
Sharing his grief, @Plug08066 wrote: “May the gentleness of the souls departed rest in peace. This is the reason why we need to elect a person who loves education and health so much but you’ll rather vote for your tribesman because of tribalism and end up regretting it in the long run.”
Another user, @omoiyaonikoko1, blamed the examination body’s policies for the unfortunate loss: “The jamb registra needs to resign man has been bringing policy that make jamb applicant to through hell for God sake what’s wrong with the good old ways of writing jamb??now soul are gone all in the name of writing jamb exam..Goods.. May their soul continue to rest in peace.”

Similarly, @EsievDarneal criticized the early scheduling of the exams, saying: “Everything is wrong with this country you fix exams as early as 6am. Is it, not better student go to the respective school they apply for to write their entrance exam if you pass you get admission.”
Commenting on the centre allocation, @Kickflowdown added: “I don’t understand JAMB, I thought candidates choose areas where they write like states and LGA? Has it changed to buying JAMB form and being sent to Zamfara like NYSC? it’s room for racketeering to pay for favorable centres. Everything is business at the expense of lives.”
Echoing the concerns, @comrade_lekan1 stated: “Last year, I wrote an article against JAMB on two factors. Placing students in a centre too far from their residence. Fixing exam for as early as 6:30 am. There is insecurity everywhere and I wonder why JAMB is subjecting these teenagers to so much rigours. Jamb needs to be sued.”
Efforts are ongoing to ascertain the full details of the incident.
