Controversial Nigerian singer, Habeeb Olalomi Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been sentenced to three months’ imprisonment.
Chief Magistrate Babajide Ilo of the Magistrate Court in Ifo delivered the verdict on Tuesday after finding the singer guilty on two counts of assault and theft.
The court had arraigned Portable in April 2023 on a three-count charge stemming from an incident that occurred in November 2022. The charge sheet, marked No. MIF/192C/2023, detailed allegations of assault and the theft of musical equipment.
The Police Prosecutor, Inspector Olumide Awoleke, told the court that Portable and others still at large conspired on November 18, 2022, to assault one Osimosu Emmanuel Oluwafemi in Okeosa, Ilogbo, within the Ifo Magisterial District.
The defendant was also accused of unlawfully beating the victim and stealing various musical instruments, including a Yamaha H55 studio monitor, an AKG P420 condenser, and a complete Studio 2 interface cable.
The offences were charged under Sections 517, 351, 383, 384, and 390 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State, 2006.

Despite being granted bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties from his immediate family, Portable failed to appear at multiple court sessions, leading to his remand last Thursday.
Delivering judgment, Chief Magistrate Ilo found the singer guilty of the first two counts—conspiracy to assault and unlawful assault—but struck out the third count related to theft.
He sentenced Portable to one month’s imprisonment with an option of a N10,000 fine on Count 1 and two months’ imprisonment with an option of a N20,000 fine on Count 2.
The sentences are to run concurrently, and the singer may regain freedom if the fines are paid.
This development marks a legal setback for the singer, who has frequently attracted public attention due to his controversial lifestyle and social media outbursts.
