Controversial singer Portable has been granted N1m bail by a court in Ilorin following fresh defamation  and other charges filed against him.

Popular hip hop artiste Habeeb Okikiola, known as Portable, was on Monday granted bail by the Upper Area Court, Ilorin, Kwara State.

The court granted him bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum. One of the sureties must be a top official of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria while the other must own a landed property in a Government Reserved Area with a valid Certificate of Occupancy.

The bail followed charges filed by fuji musician Alhaji Saheed Osupa, who petitioned the police over an alleged defamation incident.

However, Portable was taken to Oke-Kura Correctional Facility in Ilorin, as he is yet to meet the stringent bail conditions.

Observers have questioned Osupa’s choice of Ilorin as the location for the petition, given that neither party resides in Kwara State and the alleged offence was not committed there.

This marks another chapter in Portable’s ongoing legal troubles. On February 20, 2025, the Isabo Magistrates’ Court in Abeokuta, Ogun State, granted him bail on assault charges after he allegedly led his associates to attack government officials on February 5.

The assaulted officials—TPL Onabanjo Abidemi, TPL Raymond Lateef, and TPL Ridwan Oyero Akinlesi—were staff of the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development.

Two years earlier, on March 28, 2023, Portable faced assault charges at the Ifo Magistrates’ Court after attacking a police officer, Inspector Hammed Moshood, at Odogwu Bar, Ifo.

Following his release in February, Portable posted a video on social media promising to stay out of trouble and focus on making money.

“I need money. I am not looking for trouble anymore,” he said. “I’m now focused on making money. I have N2 million bail debt.”

With no surety yet willing to submit a C of O, the controversial artiste may remain in custody in the unfamiliar terrain of Ilorin for sometime.
