Controversial social media critic, Martin Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, has been arrested by the Nigerian police in Abuja.

VeryDarkMan’s lawyer, Barrister Deji Adeyanju confirmed the arrest on Friday through his X handle. He disclosed that police officers detained the critic at Area 3 in Abuja.

Adeyanju expressed his dissatisfaction with the arrest. “This is absolutely unacceptable. Demanding accountability is not a crime”, he said.

Further updates from Adeyanju indicated that VeryDarkMan was arrested along with his friend, C Park, although his mother was not taken into custody.

The arrest came after VeryDarkMan had raised alarm on social media about multiple, unexplained deductions from his mother’s account.

He had visited a GTBank branch in Abuja to seek clarification and obtain a copy of her bank statement, revealing that his mother had been debited several times for loan repayments she never authorized.

In his viral post, VeryDarkMan stated, “Myself and my mom just arrived at GTBank to get an explanation for the constant debit from her account by GTBank in the name of loan repayments that she never took.

In this year alone, see the amount of times she has been debited with different amounts.” He further added, “We have requested her bank statements so we know when the debiting started. So far, in this year alone, there have been more than seven debits on loan repayments.”

The situation is still unfolding, with more details expected to emerge.
