At least six people have been killed following a fresh attack by unidentified gunmen in Marit village and Gashish district of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area in Plateau State.

The assailants reportedly struck late Monday night, shooting indiscriminately and setting homes ablaze in a coordinated raid that lasted several hours.

Eyewitnesses said the attackers arrived in large numbers, forcing families to flee into nearby bushes for safety.

The six confirmed casualties, including two women, were said to have been caught in the crossfire while trying to escape.

Local vigilantes and security personnel have since been deployed to the affected areas to prevent further violence.

However, residents are calling on both the state and federal governments to bolster security presence and prevent more bloodshed in the conflict-prone region.

Plateau State has witnessed a series of deadly clashes and attacks in recent months, often linked to long-standing communal disputes and banditry.

A security official who confirmed the attack under anonymity said investigations are underway, while search operations continue in the surrounding areas.

The State Emergency Management Agency is expected to provide relief to displaced families in the coming days.
