At this year’s Met Gala, the fashion world stood still as Lupita Nyong’o made a striking appearance in an elegant seafoam green suit—an understated yet deeply evocative color choice that designers say will define interior design trends in 2025.

The event, held on May 5, 2025, at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, celebrated the theme Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, a tribute to the craftsmanship, elegance, and identity woven into Black menswear throughout history. Though the red carpet was full of show-stopping ensembles, it was Lupita’s delicately balanced blue-green suit that left a lasting impression—and not just in the fashion world.

According to interior design experts, the color she wore—a pale seafoam green—will soon dominate homes across the globe. This calming yet uplifting hue evokes images of tropical seas and sunlit skies and has already caught the attention of leading designers and tastemakers.

“It’s a color that is both invigorating and serene,” said Jennifer Ebert, Digital Editor at Homes & Gardens. “It’s no surprise Lupita’s look is being used as a blueprint for home décor trends.”

The pale seafoam shade, resting between blue and green, has ancient roots. Long believed to promote calmness and good fortune, this color was used symbolically in Egyptian, Aztec, and South American art and architecture. In 2025, it’s making a stylish comeback—not in temples, but in kitchens, bedrooms, and living rooms.

What makes this color so desirable? Tricia Guild, founder of Designers Guild, explains that seafoam green is incredibly versatile. “Reminiscent of endless tropical skies and oceans, this color is full of vitality—even on a grey day. Use it with white for crisp simplicity or pair it with deeper tones to add drama. It works beautifully in sunlit rooms, but it’s equally effective under candlelight.”

Guild recommends layering the shade with soft neutrals or sandy tones to create an organic, coastal look. For those seeking contrast, pairing pale blue-greens with burnt orange or red can deliver bold visual impact.

Sarah Fortescue, founder of Sarah Fortescue Design, adds that it’s particularly suited for north-facing rooms. “This color can bring light and warmth where natural sunlight is limited. It’s especially effective in spaces that need a refreshing lift after a long winter.”

With wellness and nature remaining central to home design trends, seafoam green is perfectly timed. Its natural associations—sea, sky, and foliage—make it a meaningful way to connect interior spaces to the outside world.

“Whether we are working or relaxing, it’s essential to have a space that reflects optimism,” says Marianne Shillingford, Creative Director at Dulux. “Seafoam green delivers that effortlessly—it speaks of fresh starts and balance.”

If you’re looking to incorporate the seafoam trend into your home, there are many easy ways to do so without a complete renovation.

Accent pieces like vases, kitchenware, and throw pillows can add just the right amount of color. For example, the Calista Vase from Lulu and Georgia features a curved silhouette and subtle seafoam hue that’s ideal for fresh flowers or greenery. Anthropologie’s Old Havana Canister, artisan-crafted in Portugal, brings rustic charm and elegance to any shelf or countertop.

Even appliances are getting a seafoam makeover. The classic Bialetti Moka Express Espresso Maker, now available in a soft green finish, adds retro flair and color trend credibility to your morning routine.

For those more adventurous, painting a feature wall in seafoam or introducing seafoam cabinetry in the kitchen can create a bold but soothing focal point. It’s a color that works well with both natural woods and minimalist whites.

Designers seem to agree that seafoam green isn’t just a passing trend—it’s a color that will shape the visual landscape of homes in 2025 and beyond. Its emotional resonance, cultural history, and adaptability make it a crowd-pleasing favorite.

“Seafoam green embodies the harmony of blue’s calm and green’s energy,” says Ebert. “It’s emotionally intelligent, easy to work with, and incredibly stylish.”

As Lupita Nyong’o continues to be a fashion icon and tastemaker, her influence now extends far beyond the red carpet. Her Met Gala suit has sparked more than admiration—it’s inspired a movement toward interiors that are calm, grounded, and filled with light.
