U.S. President Donald Trump has opted out of attending the Turkey peace talks aimed at resolving the ongoing war in Ukraine, citing the birth of his newest grandchild as the reason for his absence.

Speaking during an engagement in the United Arab Emirates, Trump announced that his daughter Tiffany had just delivered a baby. “I want to see my grandchild as soon as I can,” he told attendees, noting his deep family commitment.

Although Trump had initially hinted at the possibility of a surprise appearance at the high-stakes diplomatic summit in Turkey, he confirmed that he would instead return directly to Washington.

“I should have returned last night,” he said, “but I didn’t want to disappoint our gracious hosts here in Abu Dhabi.”

The peace talks in Turkey are centered around ending the war between Russia and Ukraine, a conflict that has resulted in significant global tension and thousands of deaths.

Trump emphasized that no substantial progress would be made at the summit without his direct involvement.

“I want to meet with President Putin as soon as it can be arranged,” he stated. “We’re gonna get it done. We have to get it done. Five thousand young people are dying every single week on average.”

The peace process continues with other world leaders in attendance, but Trump’s absence is expected to cast a significant shadow over the negotiations.
