The Guild of Corporate Online Publishers, GOCOP, will June 17 unveil public a book titled “Nigeria Media Renaissance: GOCOP Perspectives on Online Publishing” at the Abuja Continental Hotel.

The event is expected to serve as a high-level fundraiser for the N2.3 billion GOCOP Media Centre—a state-of-the-art facility proposed to house a modern newsroom, 21st-century library, conference halls, and a national secretariat for online journalism in Nigeria.

GOCOP Publicity Secretary Ogbuefi Remmy Nweke said the event marks a significant milestone in Nigerian media history, as it encapsulates the evolution and transformation of online journalism over the past decade.

GOCOP President, Ms Maureen Chigbo emphasized that the publication offers deep insights into how online publishing has become a force for public enlightenment, transparency, and national development.

“This landmark publication chronicles the transformative journey of Nigeria’s media landscape, highlighting the role of innovation and resilience among Nigerian journalists in the digital era”, she said.

Chigbo added that the launch will gather top figures from government, media, academia, the private sector, and civil society to critically reflect on the changing face of journalism and the strategic importance of digital publishing in modern democracies.

The book also discusses press freedom, civil liberties, and the online media’s growing role in holding power to account while promoting informed public discourse. It aims to serve both as an academic reference and a guide for the next generation of journalists navigating the digital terrain.

GOCOP, currently comprising 120 members, is a professional body of editors and senior journalists who have transitioned from traditional print and broadcast media into the online space. The Guild is committed to upholding ethical journalism standards in Nigeria’s fast-evolving digital environment.

The event is expected to attract national attention, with key stakeholders already pledging support for the GOCOP Media Centre initiative—designed to enhance capacity-building and media development nationwide.
