The Premier League has officially ushered in the 2025/26 season following the conclusion of its Annual General Meeting held on Wednesday.
The meeting formalised the transition from the previous season and recognised the 20 clubs that will compete in the new campaign, including newly promoted sides Leeds United, Burnley and Sunderland.
In a statement released by the Premier League, the league confirmed that all necessary administrative processes have been completed.
This includes the issuance of Premier League share certificates to the three promoted clubs, signifying their full integration into England’s top-tier football division.
“A new share certificate for each promoted club has been signed by the Premier League directors and company secretary. As required under company law, the three clubs have been entered into the share register,” the league noted.
This symbolic and legal step signifies that Leeds United, Burnley, and Sunderland are now fully-fledged Premier League clubs, eligible to compete in the 2025/26 season and receive the financial benefits associated with top-flight status.
Meanwhile, the three clubs relegated at the end of the 2024/25 season — Leicester City, Ipswich Town, and Southampton — have returned their Premier League shares, marking the end of their current tenure in the league. The Premier League Board has subsequently confirmed the cancellation of their shares.
Attention now turns to the eagerly awaited fixture release. The full match schedule for the 2025/26 Premier League season will be announced at 09:00 BST on Wednesday, June 18.
