Four-time Grand Slam winner Naomi Osaka has announced her split from renowned tennis coach Patrick Mouratoglou, ending a partnership that lasted less than a year.

The Japanese tennis star, who joined forces with the French coach in September 2024, shared the news on Monday, via her official X (formerly Twitter) account.

“Merci Patrick… it was such a great experience learning from you,” Osaka wrote, expressing gratitude for the time spent working with Mouratoglou, who is best known for coaching 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams for over a decade.

Osaka, a former world number one, had taken a break from tennis in 2023 following the birth of her daughter.

Her return to the professional circuit has seen mixed results, with the 26-year-old still finding her rhythm after the hiatus. Currently ranked 49th in the world, Osaka has struggled to make deep runs in major tournaments this season.

Her performances at Grand Slam events have been below expectations: she exited the 2025 French Open in the first round and was eliminated in the third round at Wimbledon.

The decision to part ways with Mouratoglou appears to follow these setbacks and suggests a possible shift in strategy as Osaka works to rebuild her game and climb back up the rankings.

Neither Osaka nor Mouratoglou has publicly detailed the reasons behind the coaching change beyond the social media message, and there is no immediate word on her plans for a new coach or team structure moving forward.

Mouratoglou had stepped in to coach Osaka following brief stints with other players, including his work with Simona Halep. The partnership raised hopes of a career resurgence for Osaka, but the results failed to match the anticipation.

The split marks another chapter in Osaka’s evolving career as she navigates life as a professional athlete and a new mother, with fans worldwide watching her journey closely.
