Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, University of Ibadan UI branch, on Tuesday staged a peaceful protest demanding that the Federal Government should honour its agreement with the union.
The Chairperson, ASUU, UI branch, Dr Aderemi Afolabi, led his members carrying banners flaying the non-implementation of the 2009 agreement, on the protest march, across the campus.

The chairman said that the warning protest ahead of the meeting called by the Federal Government on Aug. 28, was to impress on it the need to implement the agreement.
Afolabi said that it was imperative that the Federal Government end what it described as delay tactics and implement the Alhaji Yayale Ahmed Report, submitted since February 2025.
According to the ASUU chairman the report encapsulated all contentious issues and reflects a consensus with the union.
“The peaceful protest which started from the Faculty of Arts and throughout the university campus is to tell the government we are tired of being pushed over.
“Our members are increasingly frustrated with the government’s delay tactics, the so-called ‘keep them talking’ syndrome.
“The union is well aware of the planned meeting scheduled for August 28, 2025, but the prevailing sentiment among our members is clear: they are no longer willing to be dragged along endlessly, without tangible outcomes,” Afolabi said.
The News Agency of Nigeria recalled that the ASUU Ibadan Zone on Monday held a news conference warning of impending industrial action if the government continues to drag its feet in meeting the union’s demand.
NAN reports that scores of ASUU members chanted songs of solidarity across the campus.
