The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 70-year-old man, identified as Lawan Sani, of the Bakin Kura area of Bauchi metropolis, for allegedly attempting to rape a 16-year-old teenager.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.
Wakil noted that the suspect was apprehended following a distress call received on September 1, 2025.
According to Wakil, operatives attached to the C Divisional Headquarters, led by the Divisional Police Officer, SP Naziru Pindiga, swiftly moved to the scene and arrested the suspect in Unguwar Sarakuna, where he worked as a watchman.

In another development, Wakil disclosed that on September 6, 2025, police operatives arrested one Ibrahim Uzairu, 30, of Fantami area in Gombe State, for allegedly stealing a Toyota Sienna with registration number DKN-254-DW from Gombe.
He said detectives attached to the B Divisional Police Headquarters, GRA, responded to intelligence and arrested Uzairu while wandering around an exclusive hotel along Ahmadu Bello Way, Bauchi, with the stolen vehicle.
“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to conspiring with two others, identified as Sani alias Mulmule and Abdullahi alias Abdul, both from Gombe State, to steal the vehicle at Tsohuwar Kasuwa, Gombe State,” Wakil added.
He explained that the investigation was ongoing, and the suspect would be handed over to the Gombe State Command for further action.
Wakil further quoted the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, as calling on stakeholders and residents to collaborate with the police, stressing that security is a collective responsibility aimed at ensuring peaceful coexistence.
On September 2, the operatives of the Lagos State Command, Gender Unit, arrested a 60-year-old man, Ajayi Femi, for allegedly raping a 24-year-old lady.
The suspect was reported by the victim’s sister to the police at the Meiran Station before being transferred to the Gender Unit of the command for further investigation.
