Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris has announced plans to establish a Military Operation Base for special forces in Augie Local Government Area to strengthen security and protect lives and property.

Governor Idris made the announcement on Tuesday during a special walima and the commissioning of the All-Progressives Congress Secretariat in Augie, named “Kauran Gwandu House.”

The governor said the planned military base would enhance peace and stability not only in Augie but also in surrounding communities.

“We are fully committed to supporting all security agencies in their efforts to safeguard lives and property across Kebbi State. The Military Operation Base in Augie will go a long way in restoring peace and ensuring people can go about their normal activities without fear,” he said.

In addition to security measures, Governor Idris revealed that the state government would approve the complete renovation of Augie General Hospital to improve grassroots access to quality healthcare.

While commending the people of Augie for their support and cooperation, the governor urged them to sustain their unity and called on other local governments to emulate the gesture of building befitting party secretariats.

APC State Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Kana-Zuru, also praised party leaders in Augie for their efforts in providing the new secretariat and encouraged others to follow their example.

Earlier, APC Chairman in Augie LGA, Alhaji Bashir Mera, said the gathering was aimed at offering special prayers for Governor Idris, seeking Allah’s guidance and protection for him and his administration.

He also disclosed that an APC stalwart in the area, Barrister Bello Abubakar Bayawa, donated a Peugeot 406 car, ten motorcycles, and ten grinding machines to support the community.

The event, which combined prayers, commissioning, and community empowerment, highlighted the administration’s drive to enhance both security and social development in Kebbi State.

In June 2025, Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris announced plans to establish a Nigerian Army operational base in the Zuru Emirate to address escalating bandit attacks in parts of Kebbi South.

This decision followed recent incidents in Tadurga and Kyebu villages, where several lives were lost and livestock stolen.

To support this initiative, the state government facilitated the deployment of Armored Personnel Carriers and other military equipment from Abuja.

Temporary accommodation for troops was arranged, pending the construction of a permanent base. Governor Idris emphasized the administration’s commitment to enhancing security and restoring peace in the region.

Additionally, the state government proposed stringent measures against individuals aiding bandits. Governor Idris disclosed plans to amend existing laws to impose severe penalties, including the death penalty or life imprisonment, on convicted informants.
