Bayern Munich have rewarded Vincent Kompany with a two-year contract extension following an impressive run that has reasserted the German giants’ dominance both in the Bundesliga and the Champions League.
The club announced on Tuesday that Kompany’s deal would now run until 2029, reflecting their confidence in his leadership after a near-perfect start to the 2025 season.
The Belgian tactician, who joined the club in the summer of 2024, has guided Bayern to 11 consecutive wins across all competitions, maintaining an unbeaten record that has kept the Bavarians comfortably at the top of both league and European tables.
Kompany’s appointment last year initially raised eyebrows, as he was reportedly not the club’s first choice following their turbulent 2023–24 campaign. However, he quickly silenced critics by reclaiming the Bundesliga title from Bayer Leverkusen in his debut season, restoring the club’s traditional dominance.
Reflecting on his journey so far, the 39-year-old former Manchester City captain expressed deep satisfaction with his time in Munich.

“It feels like I’ve been here a lot longer and that I know the club well,” Kompany said in a statement released by Bayern. “It’s been a great experience so far. We’ve started on a wonderful journey. Let’s keep working hard and celebrate much more success.”
Since taking over, Kompany has been praised for introducing a disciplined defensive structure combined with high-intensity pressing and fluid attacking play. His tactical evolution has earned Bayern widespread admiration, with pundits calling him one of Europe’s brightest young coaches.
Bayern’s front office also lauded his work ethic and leadership, describing the extension as a “natural step” in the club’s ongoing project to remain competitive across Europe.
Kompany’s tenure has seen the successful integration of several young talents into the senior squad, a shift that has balanced experience with fresh energy—a formula that could define Bayern’s next era.
With the club’s management showing full faith in his vision, Kompany now has a longer runway to continue his project, aiming not only to maintain domestic dominance but also to deliver another Champions League trophy to the Allianz Arena faithful.
