After a meeting with President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday, the organised labour is disposed to giving the Federal Government more time to roll out the economic palliatives promisd by governments.
The leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, led by its President, Comrade Joe Ajaero, and that of Trade Union Congress, TUC, Comrade Festus Usifo, are meeting on Thursday to review the nationwide protest against government’s removal of fuel subsidy.
The labour unions, according to a statement issued by the outgoing Special Adviser to the President on Special Duties, Communications and Strategy and minister-nominee, Dele Alake, opted for further constructive engagement with the government to resolve all outstanding issues as they affect the working people and Nigerians in general.
President Tinubu gave his commitment to the labour leaders that the Port Harcourt refinery would start production by December 2023 after the completion of the ongoing rehabilitation contract between NNPCL and Italian firm, Maire Tecnimont SpA.
Tinubu also assured the labour leaders that he would continue to work for the best interest of Nigeria while pleading with the labour leaders to join hands with him to birth a better and economically buoyant country.
The labour unions commenced the nationwide protest on Wednesday over what they described as “anti-poor” and “insensitive” policies of the Federal Government, following the removal of subsidy on petrol.
