A devastating boat accident in Katcha Local Government Area of Niger State has resulted in the loss of two young lives and left two individuals injured.
Alhaji Salihu Garba, the Overseeing Director-General of the Niger Emergency Management Agency, confirmed this unfortunate tragedy to the News Agency of Nigeria in Minna on Saturday.
The catastrophe unfolded on Friday around 6 p.m when the boat’s engine caught fire due to mechanical failure, subsequently igniting a gallon of petrol stored inside the vessel.
Astonishingly, the boat was carrying a total of 145 passengers, hailing from the Danbo community in Kogi State, who were returning from Katcha Market.
Tragically, one of the deceased children’s bodies has been recovered, but the search for the second missing child remains ongoing, casting a somber shadow over this heart-wrenching incident.
