APC says INEC’s delisting of Bayelsa Governorship candidate premature

The All Progressives Congress, APC, has described the Independent National Electoral Commission’s removal of its candidate, Timipre Sylva, from the list of candidates for the Nov. 11 Bayelsa governorship election as premature.

Mr Felix Morka, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, stated this in an Abuja statement.

“The APC has drawn attention to INEC’s updated list of gubernatorial candidates for the Nov. 11 governorship election in Bayelsa, which omitted our candidate’s name, Chief Timipre Sylva.”

“This action by INEC may be related to the High Court decision of October 9 that disqualified Chief Timipre Sylva as our party’s candidate.”

“Our candidate and party promptly appealed that judgment and filed other proceedings seeking a stay of execution.”

“Recognising the extreme urgency of the matter, the Court of Appeal granted an order of accelerated hearing of the matter now fixed for definite hearing on Friday, Oct. 27,” Morka said in a press release.

He went on to say that INEC was a party in the case and had been served with all relevant filings and orders.

He claimed that delisting the APC candidate in the circumstances, as INEC had done, was premature and could preempt the outcome of the valid appeal in court.
