On Sunday night, there was a loud explosion at the Rivers State House of Assembly complex. A few people suspected to be arsonists  threw an explosive into the complex, starting a fire in the structure.

According to Crediblenews, the event coincided with purported efforts by certain lawmakers to remove Governor Siminalayi Fubara from office.

Information surfaced that at 9:25 p.m., a few people suspected of arson threw an explosive into the complex, starting a fire in the structure.

Although Grace Iringe-Koko, the state police command spokesperson, was unavailable by phone, a senior police officer verified the incident to our correspondent.

According to information obtained by our correspondent, some of the chamber’s properties were damaged.

Because of the delicate nature of the incident, the police officer begged to remain anonymous but stated that the incident was politically motivated.

It is true, indeed. The fire started at about 9:30 p.m. But as we speak, firefighters who arrived on the scene just in time have put out the fire. “I believe politics is involved,” he said.

According to information obtained by our correspondent, certain state legislators have made plans to remove Eddison Ehie, the leader of the House, before Fubara can be removed.

It is alleged that the leader of the House has been impeding efforts to remove Fubara.

After visiting the Assembly at around 10:30 p.m., our reporter saw that approximately 17 security trucks and one armored personnel carrier were parked at the entrance and surrounding areas, indicating that the police and other security personnel had taken control of the complex.
