The Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, and his estranged godfather and the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, were seen meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday.

The two prominent politicians, who are members of the Peoples Democratic Party , PDP , exchanged handshakes upon their encounter at the State House.

This meeting followed the impeachment proceedings initiated by some lawmakers of the Rivers State House of Assembly against Governor Fubara. The political developments in Rivers State have garnered significant attention, and the meeting at the Presidential Villa adds intrigue to the ongoing situation.

Governor Fubara and former Governor Wike appeared to be at the Villa for a meeting of the Nigeria Police Council, a constitutional body responsible for overseeing the organization and administration of the Nigeria Police Force. The council meeting is currently being presided over by President Bola Tinubu.

The Nigeria Police Council is composed of the governors of each state in the federation, the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, and the Inspector-General of Police. The council plays a vital role in the governance and management of the country’s law enforcement agencies.

It is worth noting that the last meeting of the Nigeria Police Council took place on June 4, 2021, with then-President Muhammadu Buhari presiding over the proceedings.

There have been allegations that the FCT Minister is linked to the initiation of the impeachment process against Governor Fubara, adding to the intrigue surrounding this meeting.

The meeting at the Presidential Villa also involved other state governors, including Yahaya Bello of Kogi, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun, Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa, Bala Mohammed of Bauchi, Abdullahi Abba of Kano, and Bassey Otu of Cross River. The discussion occurred behind closed doors, further raising questions about its content and implications.
