In a promising move, the Nigerian Air Force , NAF, has reached out to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission , EFCC,to forge a partnership aimed at tackling economic and financial crimes within the nation’s airports.

The air division of the Nigerian Armed Forces is known as the Nigerian Air Force , NAF. Within the Nigerian Armed Forces, it is the newest branch.

At over 18,000 personnel as of 2021, it is one of the largest in Africa. Its fleet includes nine Chengdu F-7s, eleven Dassault-Dornier Alpha Jets, twelve Embraer EMB 314 Super Tucanos, three JF-17 Thunder Block II aircraft, twelve Ameracchi M-346 FAs that are on order, attack helicopters, armed attack drones, and military transport aircraft.

Captain B. Topman, the newly-appointed Commandant at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu, initiated this collaboration during his visit to the Enugu Zonal Command of the EFCC on November 2, 2023.

In a statement released by EFCC spokesman Dele Oyewale on November 6, Topman emphasized the importance of this collaboration, stating, “EFCC is very paramount to us, and we have been collaborating with the Commission, even when I was in Kaduna, Kano, and Port Harcourt.

I assisted with maximum support to effect the arrest of individuals or suspects wanted by the Commission at the airport. Hence, my team is willing to collaborate with Enugu Zonal Command to make their airport’s operations seamless.”

The response from Aliyu Naibi, the Enugu Zonal Commander of the EFCC, was one of satisfaction and optimism. Naibi acknowledged the significance of the visit, assuring that both agencies would continue to work in harmony for the betterment of Nigeria.

He expressed, “I’m very happy, and I commend the NAF for the services it is rendering at all times to the Commission.

Despite all the challenges in the country, I believe Nigeria is going to be great, and this constant interaction with each other will make our work more effective.”

This cooperative effort between the Nigerian Air Force and the EFCC holds the promise of bolstering the fight against financial crimes within the nation’s airports, underscoring the significance of unity and collaboration in advancing the interests of Nigeria.
