Suspected political thugs has on Tuesday attacked the residence of a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Diekivie, in the Kpansia area of Yenagoa, Bayelsa State,

During the attack, the thugs were said to have threw an explosive, believed to be dynamite, into the building around 2 am.

In the early hours of Tuesday, suspected political thugs launched an attack on the residence of Chief Diekivie, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the Kpansia area of Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

During the assault, the attackers reportedly hurled an explosive device, believed to be dynamite, into the building at approximately 2 am.

Although there were no reported injuries during the attack, the explosive caused damage to the building, particularly shattering window panes near the area where the device landed within the compound.

Residents of the area described hearing a loud explosion around 2 am.

According to Punch, there were no injuries reported in the attack on Ikiogha’s residence, but the explosive damaged nearby window panes.

Upon visiting the site, it was discovered that the explosion had left holes in the ground and shattered windows.

At about 2am in the morning, some locals claimed to have heard a loud explosion. “I heard a big explosion from this building around 2am last night,” a resident stated. However, I’m not sure what started it.

Cops have not yet verified the incident. Ikiogha, a former Yenagoa Government House Chief of Staff and Commissioner for Agriculture, remained silent about the event.

Remarkably, he defected to the All Progressives Congress before rejoining the PDP. Ikiogha left the APC to join the Labour Party in the run-up to the Bayelsa governorship elections. He took part in the party’s primary election but

Efforts to reach Chief Diekivie for comment were unsuccessful at the time of reporting. The politician recently returned to the PDP, several years after his defection to the All Progressives Congress , APC.

Prior to the Bayelsa governorship elections, Chief Diekivie moved from the APC to the Labour Party, where he contested the primary election but lost to the LP governorship candidate, Udengs Eradiri.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Asinim Butswat, was contacted for further information and a response to the incident.
