Organized labor in Nigeria, comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress , NLC, and Trade Union Congress , TUC, is set to commence an indefinite strike in Imo State to protest alleged violation of workers’ rights and the recent brutalization of NLC President Joe Ajaero during a protest.
The labor unions have also threatened a nationwide strike if their demands are not met by the federal and Imo state governments by November 14.
The labor unions have demanded that Ahmed Barde, the Imo State Commissioner of Police, be redeployed and that he be investigated; that the Area Commander and police officers involved in the attack on Ajaero be fired; and that Mr. Nwaneri Chinasa, the governor of Imo State’s special advisor on duties, be arrested and prosecuted.
In addition, they demand that all unfulfilled agreements with the Imo State government be implemented and that Ajaero undergo an independent medical examination to determine the extent of his injuries.
The labor unions are protesting the violation of workers’ rights, non-payment of salaries, declaration of ghost workers, and various issues affecting workers in Imo State.
Recall that, Crediblenews had reported the abduction of Joe Ajaero who was abducted, brutalized, and threatened with death by the police during a peaceful protest in Imo State.
The Nigeria Trade Union Congress , NTUC, Labour Unity Front , LUF, United Labour Congress , ULC , and Nigeria Workers’ Council , NWC, were the four organizations that came together to form the Nigerian Labour Congress in December 1978.

and Titular representing Africa in the Global Union Federation Public Service International are just a few of the current positions that Comrade Joe Ajaero holds.
