In a recent ruling, the Court of Appeal in Lagos has removed Hon Emeka Nnamani of the Labour Party as the representative for Aba North and South Federal Constituency in Abia State due to certificate forgery issues.

The court declared Alex Ikwechegh of the All Grand Progressives Alliance as the legitimate winner of the February 25 general election in the constituency.

The certificate discrepancies in question date back to 2015.

The appellate court agreed with the ruling of the Election Tribunal on September 11th, which had earlier held that Nnamani was convicted of forging a University of Port Harcourt degree certificate in 2015 and was consequently barred from seeking public office for 10 years.

The Appeal court stated that the ruling of the tribunal in 2015 which was upheld by the Appeal Court in the same year still subsists. It, therefore, dismissed the Labour Party’s candidate appeal.

With the sack, Nnamani has lost two elections on the basis of certificate forgery.

Recall that, Hon. Emeka Nnamani, a prominent philanthropist, politician, and business magnate, had formally announced his intention to run for the Aba North/South Federal Constituency Seat in the general elections of 2023.
On Wednesday, April 6, 2022, Nnanani, a former member of the Abia State House of Assembly, announced his intention to run for office under the banner of the All Progressives Grand Alliance , APGA.

On the same day, he also obtained the Expression of Interest and Nomination form from the APGA’s National Secretariat in Abuja.
