In a firm stance against abandoned housing projects in Nigeria, the Federal Government may soon summon contractors and developers to address the issue.

The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, expressed the government’s determination to no longer tolerate such situations, especially when millions of Nigerians are in dire need of housing.

Following the inspection of housing projects in Abuja, Dangiwa emphasized the government’s intention to recoup its investments and seek explanations from contractors and developers about the abandonment of projects.

President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to providing affordable housing for Nigerians aligns with the government’s renewed hope vision.

The Ministry of Housing is actively engaging with housing projects, such as the NHP Karsana and Brains and Hammers Deidei projects in the Federal Capital Territory.

Dangiwa acknowledged that some developers lack the necessary managerial or financial capacity, and the government is considering bringing in more capable and serious developers to ensure the successful completion of housing projects.

Addressing the issue of delayed projects, Dangiwa mentioned that contractors seeking a review of their contracts would need to collaborate with the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria , FMBN, as loans were provided to them.

The government is keen on holding discussions with developers to understand the reasons behind project abandonment, taking a proactive approach to revitalize the housing sector and fulfill the housing needs of millions of Nigerians.
