In a bid to address the housing deficit in Nigeria, the Federal Government has announced plans to provide 80,000 houses over the next eight years.
The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Mr. Mahmuda Mamman, made this disclosure during the 12th meeting of the National Council on Lands, Housing, and Urban Development held in Kaduna.
Mr. Mahmuda Mamman emphasized that the government, under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, is committed to taking a different approach to addressing housing challenges.
He highlighted the ministry’s approved memorandum, particularly focusing on the social housing scheme.
Under this policy, the government aims to make housing more accessible to vulnerable individuals in the country, bridging the gap in the housing sector.
The social housing scheme is designed to provide affordable housing options for Nigerians across different income strata, ensuring that people from various socioeconomic backgrounds can have a place to call home.
During the meeting in Kaduna, Mamman explained that the government is seeking collaboration with states to provide suitable land for the construction of these houses.
The ambitious plan involves the construction of 80,000 houses, catering to the housing needs of diverse segments of the Nigerian population.
While acknowledging the affordability variations among the housing options, Mamman assured Nigerians that the government is dedicated to implementing effective and innovative strategies to meet the housing needs of the populace.
He called for patience from the public, emphasizing the government’s commitment to delivering on its promises and prioritizing effective solutions to address the housing deficit.
