The Nigeria Safety Investigation Bureau , NSIB ,has officially launched an investigation into an incident involving a Bombardier CRJ-900LR aircraft owned by Valuejet Airlines.

The aircraft, with the Nationality and Registration Marks 5N-BXR, experienced an incident at the Port Harcourt International Airport on November 14, around 3:32 pm.

Dr. James Odaudu, the NSIB Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, released a statement in Abuja confirming the launch of the investigation.

According to the statement, the aircraft overshot the runway ,runway 03, upon landing from Lagos with 62 passengers and 5 crew members on board.

Fortunately, there were no injuries or fatalities reported, and all passengers and crew were safely evacuated with no damage to the aircraft.

The NSIB has initiated the investigative process to determine both the immediate and remote causes of the incident.

Investigators from the bureau are already at the scene, working to unravel the circumstances surrounding the occurrence.

Odaudu emphasized the importance of avoiding speculation about the potential causes of the incident and urged the public and media to respect the privacy of those involved.

The NSIB serves as a multimodal investigation agency with a mandate to investigate transportation accidents and serious incidents in Nigeria.

For any information or communication related to the investigation, the NSIB can be contacted through info@aib.gov.ng, NSIB_Nigeria on social media platforms, or the emergency line at +234-807-709-0909.
