In a move aimed at fortifying the educational landscape in Kwara State, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq recently swore in Dr. Ariyike Salau as the new Special Adviser on Education.
The governor emphasized that her appointment is pivotal to reinforcing the policy direction in the state’s education sector, aspiring to create a robust education system that provides every Kwara child with a fair opportunity for success in life.
Speaking in Ilorin, the state capital, Governor AbdulRazaq shared his administration’s commitment to leaving a lasting legacy of a strong education system. He expressed the desire to ensure that Kwara’s educational landscape aligns with the realities of the 21st century.
Over the past four years, significant investments have been made in school infrastructure, sanitation facilities, information communication technology, teacher recruitment, and prompt payment of salaries.
The governor pledged to continue these efforts within the constraints of resources, focusing on building infrastructure to support a stronger economy and inclusivity in society.
Governor AbdulRazaq stressed the importance of strengthening the policy direction in the education sector, particularly in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics ,STEM. This move is seen as crucial to providing a solid foundation for children at the basic and senior secondary levels.
In addition to Dr. Ariyike Salau’s appointment, the governor inaugurated a committee tasked with establishing the proposed Kwara State University of Education.
Chaired by educationist and former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Shuaib Oba Abdulraheem, the committee comprises experts, bureaucrats, and patriots.
The governor expressed confidence in the committee’s ability to carry out this historic duty, which he believes will become a shining legacy for the state.
During the ceremony attended by key government officials, Governor AbdulRazaq congratulated the appointees, thanking them for their willingness to serve the state. The governor affirmed his commitment to providing the necessary support for their success.
In his response, Prof. Shuaib Oba Abdulraheem commended the governor’s foresight and dedication to advancing the state’s education system.
He acknowledged the governor’s commitment to innovation in education and highlighted the significance of establishing a University of Education, positioning Kwara State at the forefront of educational innovation in the region.
