The Super Falcons have begun receiving payments of about ₦140 million, representing the naira equivalent of the $100,000 reward promised by President Bola Tinubu following their victory at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

According to the National Sports Commission, the payments fulfil the President’s pledge after the Nigerian team staged a remarkable comeback to defeat hosts Morocco in the final in July 2025.

The Super Falcons, who trail 2-0, produce a spirited second-half performance to stun the hosts and reclaim the African crown, further cementing their position as Africa’s most successful women’s national team.

Team captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, expresses gratitude to Tinubu for fulfilling his promise, describing the gesture as a welcome recognition of the team’s achievement and contribution to Nigerian sports.

The reward further highlights Tinubu’s commitment to recognising sporting excellence and motivating Nigerian athletes to achieve greater success on the international stage.

The President also promises and delivers $100,000 rewards to members of D’Tigress following their triumph at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket, where Nigeria secures a fifth consecutive continental title.

The Commission commends Tinubu for his consistent support for Nigerian athletes and for demonstrating that sporting excellence deserves tangible recognition.

It adds that the President’s commitment strengthens confidence among athletes and sports administrators while encouraging a culture of reward, accountability and national pride.
