The controversy surrounding the Certified True Copy ,CTC, of the judgment sacking Kano State Governor Kabir Yusuf has been clarified by the Court of Appeal.

The court maintained that its verdict, pronounced in open court on Friday, stands as declared and affirmed the decision of the trial tribunal, upholding the prayers of the All Progressives Congress ,APC, candidate, Nasiru Gawuna.

The New Nigeria Peoples Party ,NNPP, under whose platform Yusuf was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission ,INEC, has called on the National Judicial Council ,NJC, to investigate alleged discrepancies in the CTC.

Chief Registrar of the Court of Appeal, Umar Mohammed Bangari, dismissed concerns about typographical errors in the CTC, explaining that these errors were clerical and did not invalidate or change the court’s findings and conclusion. He reassured that the errors would be rectified upon formal application by the involved parties.

Kano State’s Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Haruna Isa-Dederi, disagreed with the appellate court’s clarification, insisting that the CTC showed the Court of Appeal confirming Yusuf as the duly elected governor. He maintained that the errors pointed to the court confirming Yusuf’s victory.

The Chief Registrar assured that the court is empowered to correct clerical errors and emphasized that the judgment, as pronounced in open court, remains valid. He encouraged parties to file formal applications for error correction, emphasizing the court’s commitment to transparency and accuracy.

The discrepancies in the CTC have sparked reactions, with the NNPP claiming the judgment favored them. Despite the controversy, the Court of Appeal stands by its decision, awaiting formal applications for corrections.

The Attorney-General, in a news conference, highlighted that, as indicated in the written judgment, the appellate court set aside the judgment of the Kano Governorship Election Petition Tribunal. The discrepancies, while causing a stir, have not affected the court’s stance on the case.

As the saga continues, legal experts and parties involved await the formal application process to address the clerical errors in the CTC. The resolution of this issue is crucial for the clarity and integrity of the Court of Appeal‘s decision regarding the Kano Governorship Election.
