In a heartwarming ceremony at the Conference Centre, State House, Abuja, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu marked a significant milestone by launching the expansion of the Market-Moni scheme.

The event was made even more impactful as symbolic cheques were presented to the first set of beneficiaries, creating a sense of hope and empowerment among the recipients.

During the ceremony, Senator Tinubu, radiating a genuine concern for the well-being of the beneficiaries, provided valuable advice to those receiving the interest and collateral-free loans. Her empathetic touch emphasized the importance of strategic investment and the broader impact on employment generation, underscoring the Tinubu administration’s dedication to supporting Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises ,MSMEs.

Addressing the gathering, Senator Tinubu reiterated the transformative impact of MSMEs on vulnerable individuals in society, recognizing these enterprises as the bedrock of the economy. She emphasized the potential economic empowerment of those with limited resources, envisioning them as self-reliant entrepreneurs when equipped with the necessary skills and a supportive environment.

As a testament to the commitment to inclusivity and cultural relevance, Senator Tinubu announced the rebranding of three components of the program, aligning them with native languages and resonating with women, traders, and farmers. The rebranded components include Owo Oja (formerly Tradermoni), Owoagbe (formerly Farmermoni), and Iyaloja (formerly Marketmoni).

Senator Tinubu’s compassionate guidance extended to the practicalities of the loans, acknowledging the challenges faced by small-scale entrepreneurs in accessing funds from commercial banks. She highlighted the significance of eliminating barriers, such as high-interest rates and stringent collateral requirements, allowing individuals with limited assets to secure much-needed capital for their entrepreneurial endeavors.

In an inspiring call to action, Senator Tinubu urged beneficiaries to plan wisely, exercise financial discipline, invest strategically, commit to repayment agreements, and remain flexible in navigating the dynamic business landscape. The First Lady’s words were not just an official declaration but resonated as a genuine desire for the prosperity of all those participating in the scheme.

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu, shared further insights into the Market-Moni scheme. Targeting 1.5 million beneficiaries across the country, the program aims to cover all 109 senatorial districts. Dr. Edu explained that each beneficiary, after registration, would receive an interest and collateral-free loan of N50,000, fostering financial inclusion and supporting individuals in their entrepreneurial pursuits.

“We are on the verge of lifting 50 million Nigerians out of poverty,” Dr. Edu said. They will be market-registered. Their BVN will be registered in the market as well….It is bringing government to the people.

“As soon as they register, they will be given a loan of N50,000 to use for their businesses.” The goal is for 1.5 million Nigerians to benefit from this. Other programs in that category are available. Some of them are special projects aimed specifically at Nigerians.

“I must say that Mr. President is eager to change Nigeria for the better in the next year.” Other projects include the N-Power initiatives, home-grown school feeding initiatives, and the new special vehicle, the end-hunger project, by the Grace of God ,the President will be flagging that off next month, etc.

As the First Lady officially flagged off the Renewed Hope MSMEs program, the ceremony became a beacon of optimism, signaling positive change for countless Nigerians. The empathetic approach, coupled with practical support, showcased a government striving to uplift its citizens and create a nation where every individual can proudly say, “Renewed Hope has truly come.”

The ceremony concluded with expressions of gratitude from beneficiaries who felt not only supported but also valued by their government. These testimonials reinforced the genuine impact of the Market-Moni scheme, leaving a lasting impression on the journey toward economic empowerment and poverty alleviation.
