In a meeting with the newly appointed board of the Niger Delta Development Commission ,NDDC, Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, expressed his commitment to supporting President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The governor emphasized collaboration and assistance for NDDC’s initiatives aimed at accelerating the development of the Niger Delta region.

The meeting took place at the Rivers State Government House in Port Harcourt, where the NDDC Governing Board, led by Chairman Chiedu Ebie, paid a courtesy visit. Other members of the board present included Managing Director Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, Executive Director of Finance and Administration Alabo Boma Iyaye, Executive Director Projects Sir Victor Antai, and Executive Director of Corporate Services Ifedayo Abegunde.

Governor Fubara commended the NDDC for addressing over 90% of the challenges facing the region and expressed readiness to collaborate with federal agencies committed to the Niger Delta’s development. He pledged support for President Tinubu’s agenda, ensuring hope for the people of Rivers State and the broader Niger Delta region.

“We are going to support you to enable you to discharge your duties, and I pray that your tenure will record more successes than the previous boards,” stated Governor Fubara.

He advised the NDDC to avoid project duplication and emphasized the importance of consulting with states before initiating projects in their respective territories.

Identifying project duplication as a significant challenge, Governor Fubara acknowledged the NDDC’s commitment to addressing the issue, which has caused friction between states and the commission. He assured the NDDC board of his government’s openness to partnership and collaboration in project execution, encouraging initiatives that add value to the lives of the region’s people.

Chairman Chiedu Ebie expressed gratitude to the Rivers government for hosting the commission since its inception in 2000. He emphasized the need for a fresh approach in the NDDC, advocating for collaboration with development partners, state governments, and other stakeholders to achieve the commission’s objectives.

Addressing past issues of project duplication, Ebie stressed the importance of constant communication between NDDC representatives and state governments to ensure projects align with needs assessments.

The NDDC chairman assured Governor Fubara that the new board would work in synergy with governors in the nine states covered by the commission, fostering a collaborative and impactful approach to regional development.
