The Peoples Democratic Party ,PDP, in Cross River State has served notice of  its intention to contest the recent Appeal Court judgment affirming Gov. Bassey Otu as the winner of the March 18 governorship election in the state.

In a statement issued by the state Publicity Secretary, Mr. Mike Ojisi, the party expressed disappointment with the court’s decision, emphasizing that it did not fully reflect the party’s position on the election processes.

While calling on PDP supporters to remain calm, Ojisi acknowledged the setback but highlighted the party’s commitment to exploring all legal means available, including seeking opinions from legal experts, to reclaim what it termed “its mandate.” He assured supporters that the legal journey would continue, noting that the Supreme Court provided an avenue for further legal recourse.

The Appeal Court sitting in Lagos had upheld the tribunal judgment affirming Otu’s victory and dismissed the petition filed by the PDP candidate, Prof. Sandy Onor, citing a lack of merit.

In response to the court’s decision, Governor Otu, who had earlier called for an end to further litigation, remained unshaken by the PDP’s petition. He expressed confidence in the people’s mandate and called for unity, urging individuals, irrespective of political affiliations, to join hands in moving the state forward.

Otu welcomed the court’s affirmation of his victory, describing it as a positive development that reinforced the overwhelming support he received from the people. He emphasized the need to put an end to litigation surrounding the election and invited opposition figures, including Prof. Sandy Onor, to collaborate for the progress of the state.

The governor reiterated his commitment to the “People First” agenda and assured citizens that his administration was re-energized to deliver effective and responsive governance. Otu sought the support and patience of the people as the government worked to address challenges and fulfill the promises outlined in his vision for Cross River State.

He also mentioned ongoing preparations for the Calabar festival and efforts to address various socio-economic and developmental issues in the state.
