In a passionate plea for peace, the Palestinian Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Abu Shawesh has called for an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestinians.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, Ambassador Shawesh emphasized the urgency of ending the hostilities that have persisted for 48 days, wreaking havoc and claiming numerous lives.

Expressing the gravity of the situation, Shawesh underscored the need for both parties to release hostages and prisoners, promoting a gesture of goodwill that could pave the way for constructive dialogue. He particularly highlighted the importance of addressing the attack on the Al Shifa hospital in Gaza, urging the establishment of an independent commission of inquiry to investigate the incident.

The ambassador’s call for a two-state solution resonated throughout his address, emphasizing the Palestinian readiness for a fair and open dialogue to bring about an end to the protracted conflict. The plea comes as an impassioned appeal for a diplomatic resolution that would address the root causes of the crisis and chart a path towards a sustainable and just solution.

Providing harrowing statistics, Shawesh painted a grim picture of the toll the conflict has taken on Palestinian lives. He revealed that over 14,200 Palestinians have lost their lives, including nearly 6,000 children and 4,000 women.

The number of those injured surpassed 33,000, with approximately 6,000 individuals still missing. The ambassador’s heartfelt plea carried the weight of the suffering endured by innocent civilians caught in the crossfire.

As the conflict continues, Ambassador Shawesh’s call for an immediate ceasefire and a commitment to dialogue echoes the aspirations of those yearning for an end to the violence and a sustainable resolution that ensures peace and security for both Israelis and Palestinians.
