The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission ,NiDCOM, has issued a stern warning to its citizens intending to travel to Canada, emphasizing the importance of proper documentation.

Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Chairman/CEO of NiDCOM, conveyed this message during her visit to Nigerians residing in a shelter in Brampton, Canada.

Dabiri-Erewa urged Nigerians to pursue international travel through legal channels and ensure they have the necessary documentation to avoid facing unpleasant consequences. She specifically cautioned against individuals planning to travel without proper documentation and subsequently seeking asylum upon arrival in Canada, emphasizing the need for adherence to immigration regulations.

Highlighting the challenges faced by immigrants in various countries, Dabiri-Erewa stressed the importance of proper documentation to navigate the complexities of immigration policies. She cited instances where immigrants in Canada were dependent on food banks for their sustenance, emphasizing the need for Nigerians to travel with legitimate intentions and abide by immigration laws.

During her visit, Dabiri-Erewa acknowledged the efforts of individuals and organizations supporting Nigerians in the diaspora. Pastor Vivian Eruka, who manages the Bethel food bank, was commended for her dedication to assisting those in shelters. Additionally, Wale Rabiu, the owner of a bakery, contributed by donating loaves of Agege bread to shelter residents.

Bayo Adedosu, a Nigerian immigration consultant in Canada, provided counseling and advised Nigerians to refrain from speaking negatively about their home country.

Emphasizing the need for patience and compliance with the law, Adedosu encouraged Nigerians in Canada to maintain a positive outlook while navigating their new environment. The NiDCOM boss’s visit underscored the government’s commitment to the welfare of its citizens abroad and the importance of responsible and legal migration practices.
