President Bola Tinubu has given his nod to the appointment of Mr. Desmond Akawor as the Federal Commissioner representing Rivers State at the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation, and Fiscal Commission ,RMAFC.
The appointment is pending confirmation by the Senate.
The announcement came through the Presidential spokesperson on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, in a statement released on Thursday. Ngelale stated that Akawor’s appointment followed the unfortunate passing of the immediate past RMAFC Federal Commissioner from Rivers State, Asondu Temple earlier in the month.
Mr. Desmond Akawor brings a wealth of experience to the position, having served in various capacities, including Nigeria’s Ambassador to South Korea, Minister of State of the Federal Capital Territory, Sole Administrator of the Greater Port Harcourt Development Authority, CEO of the Niger Delta River Basin Development Authority, and Executive Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority.
The President has charged the newly appointed Federal Commissioner to utilize his extensive experience in facilitating a comprehensive reform of processes. The objective is to ensure the efficient and productive utilization of allocations across all three tiers of government in Nigeria.
Tinubu expressed confidence in Akawor’s ability to contribute significantly to the reformation efforts aimed at enhancing governance and resource management. The appointment awaits the Senate’s confirmation to formalize Akawor’s role as the Federal Commissioner representing Rivers State at RMAFC.
